Biography:

Giulia Foggi is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Animal Nutrition within the group. Her research focuses on mitigating the environmental impact of ruminants, with a particular emphasis on ruminal metabolism and function, methane emissions, feed additives, and in vitro fermentations. She is also committed to exploring alternative feed ingredients and bioactive compounds that can enhance both feed and animal-derived food quality while minimizing the environmental footprint of animal farming.

Giulia is originally from Italy and graduated from the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Sciences of the University of Pisa with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences (2016) and a Master’s degree in Biosafety and Food Quality (2018). She then pursued a PhD in Animal Nutrition at the same institution (2019-2023), specializing in rumen fermentation and dietary strategies to reduce methane and ammonia emissions in ruminants. Her doctoral research, conducted under the mentorship of Prof. Marcello Mele, explored the use of tannin extracts and essential oils as dietary additives to influence rumen fermentation.

Giulia's PhD research, recognized for its innovation and impact in the field by the same University, led to a postdoctoral fellowship in Italy (2023-2024), where she concentrated on reducing the food-feed competition, the alternative feed ingredients for ruminants, their processing, and the quality of animal products. Her findings have been shared at various international forums, including the EAAP (European Federation of Animal Science). She is also currently serving as a young representative of the Animal Nutrition Commission of the EAAP, where she is actively involved in fostering the involvement of young scientists in the field.
