Jan Dijkstra is Associate Professor at the Animal Nutrition Group of Wageningen University (the Netherlands), and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Animal Biosciences, University of Guelph (Canada). His research focuses on reducing the environmental impact of animal agriculture, with a particular focus on enteric methane emissions and nitrogen and phosphorus excretion from ruminants. Dr Dijkstra’s research integrates experimental and modelling approaches. He is the editor of four books and has authored over 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals. To date, Dr Dijkstra has successfully trained 32 PhD students and currently (co-)supervises 10 PhD students. He has received several awards, including the American Feed Industry Association Award and the Journal of Dairy Science Club 100 Award, and he is Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau for outstanding service of (inter)national significance. As an authoritative scientist, Dr Dijkstra frequently appears as an expert commentator on various media platforms, including international television, radio, and newspapers.

Marketta Rinneexternal page works as a research professor at Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), Jokioinen, Finland. Her main interests are dairy cow nutrition and closely linked with that, feed production and preservation. Recently, she has been involved with silage microbiome research, novel uses of green biomass such as green biorefineries as well as sustainability of dairy production. She is also the coordinator of the official Finnish feed evaluation activity (external page link to more information). Marketta Rinne has received her MSc and PhD degrees from University of Helsinki, Finland. She has worked at Luke (formerly MTT) over 30 years and published over 100 peer reviewed scientific articles.

Knud Erik Bach Knudsen is professor in Basic Nutrition at Aarhus University, Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Denmark. For more than 35 years, Knud Erik Bach Knudsen has been working with analytical, nutritional and health aspects of carbohydrates and phytochemicals. The work has included development of analytical methods for the determination of carbohydrates in feeds, foods and digesta materials, characterisation of carbohydrates in a wide variety of feedstuffs, studies on nutritional and physiological properties of carbohydrates in non-ruminant species, and investigations of the role of carbohydrates in prevention of digestive disturbances and establishment of parasites in pigs. Knud Erik Bach Knudsen has also been involved in cross-specie projects focusing on nutrition and health properties of carbohydrates and phytochemicals.
After completing his Ph.D. in 1980 from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Copenhagen, Knud Erik Bach Knudsen worked at the Carlsberg Research Centre and the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Copenhagen before joining the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences (DIAS) in 1986; DIAS merged 2007 with Aarhus University. He has been author and co-author of more than 292 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 115 book chapters and proceedings. The papers have mainly been related to analytical, nutritional, physiological and health aspects of carbohydrates and phytochemicals cross species.

Giuseppe Bee leads the Pig Research Group at Agroscope Posieux, focusing on sustainable and efficient swine production. His work examines the impact of nutrition on body composition, growth, and meat quality, with early research employing classical dissection techniques to study dietary fat and protein effects on pigs. This evolved into studying myofiber development and the influence of muscle biology on livestock performance. His research has addressed key challenges in the field, including the role of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in fat deposition and sow milk composition, alternatives to surgical castration such as immunocastration, and the impact of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) on growth and carcass traits.
Currently, Giuseppe focuses on improving protein efficiency and developing feeding strategies that reduce feed-food competition to enhance resource efficiency. He also leads and contributes to international projects, including MonoGutHealth, PigWeb, and Re-Livestock, aimed at advancing sustainable swine production systems.

Florian Leiber, born 1970, is a researcher in sustainable livestock nutrition since more than 20 years. He holds a PhD in natural sciences from ETH Zurich in Switzerland, where he worked for more than 8 years on pasture-based ruminant nutrition and physiology. Since 2012 he is working at the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL in Switzerland and was head of Department of Livestock Science for more than 9 years. His scope covers all aspects of organic animal nutrition, including also welfare aspects, resource efficiency, feed sourcing and nutrient cycling. Currently, he is Head of the Group of Animal Nutrition and Coordinator of the animal research facilities at FiBL. Furthermore, he is member of the Board of AGFF and of IFOAM Animal Husbandry Alliance IAHA.
